Port of Belize Notice – New Safety and Security Protocols

Port of Belize Notice – New Safety and Security Protocols commencing October 14th, 2022

Port of Belize has a reasonably good safety track-record, but we also strive to make our facility even safer for all Employees and Visitors.

We now have a draft Safety Policy, the key theme of which is “zero harm”. From this we will before the end of the year create a full Safety Management System. We are further in the process of employing a dedicated Safety Officer, who will be empowered to proactively drive for further safety improvements and awareness.

On our website we have established “Safety Requirements” which are applicable to all Employees and Visitors and cover the basic “do’s” and “do not’s”. These requirements can and should be reviewed at https://www.portofbelize.bz/safety-requirements .

We have made a soft start to screening for Safety and Security issues at our access points. We are now checking for appropriate attire and PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) as well as wand checks and intrusive bag inspections to ensure that nothing is being brought into the terminal which should not be brought. This includes all weapons, alcohol, and all drugs, which we are mandated to prevent entering as part of our ISPS compliance.

From Friday 14th October 2022, full enforcement will be applied. This means that persons who are not fully compliant with our Safety Requirements will be prevented from entering the facility. Offenders not following our Safety Requirements might also be served a ban from future entry.

We have a strong obligation to keep you, and our employees safe and secure at all times. We hope that you will follow the Safety Requirements diligently.

Best Regards,

Andy Lane
