Caribbean Economic Forum – “Solving the Ageing Population Crisis in the Caribbean”
In eight years, 17 percent of the world’s population will be older than 60, and it will almost double by 2050 to 26 percent with one in every four inhabitants in Latin America and the Caribbean over 60. This situation, along with a decline in birth rates, will have social and economic implications for us in the region.
The transition to an ageing population increases health care, strains the pension systems and shifts the demand drivers such as the price of goods, services, income, and amenities. With an imbalance we may experience dwindling resources that allow for the elderly population to live with dignity and insufficient workers to sustain economic activity.
Join the conversation on how we can ” Solve the Ageing Population Crisis in the Caribbean.” with guests Professor Emeritus Karl Theodore, Senior Consultant Advisor, HEU, Centre for Health Economics, UWI, Trinidad; Derek Osborne, Senior Partner and Actuary, LifeWorks, Bahamas and Diane Quarless, Director, ECLAC Sub-regional Headquarters for the Caribbean.
