We know that one of the fundamental documents in Human Resources is the job description. But the problem is, nobody has a clue on how to write good, clear job descriptions properly! So what do most people do? They come up with a list of everyday tasks.
But the problem with using a checklist is that it doesn’t tell you why that job matters to the organization. It doesn’t tell you what that role’s contributions are, and how that job fits into the larger mission of the organization.
When organizations do not have good, clear, purpose-driven job descriptions, this negatively impacts everything else you do in HR – from job evaluation to referencing the external market for managing salaries, tailoring learning & development assignments and career planning, and evaluating staff performance.
