Summary

A webinar to raise awareness on Convention No. 190 and Recommendation No. 206 among Caribbean tripartite constituents.

Background

Convention No. 190 (C190) was adopted in 2019, and came into force on 25 June 2021. It has not yet been ratified by any Member State in the Caribbean, but constituents in the region played an important role in the Convention’s development. A number of Governments have expressed interest in ratification, and there are numerous ongoing national legislative and policy initiatives aimed at addressing violence and harassment in the world of work.

The ILO is now embarking on a global campaign to build support for C190. The end goal is for the Convention to be ratified by legislative assemblies and implemented by governments around the world..

Objectives

The purpose of the webinar is to raise awareness about Convention No. 190 among constituents in the Caribbean, including:

• C190’s objectives and content
• The #ratifyC190 campaign, a global campaign to build support for the Convention
• Ongoing national action to prevent and address violence and harassment in the world of work
• The obligation to submit C190 and R206 to the competent national authority (within 18 months of adoption)

Agenda

The webinar will be 1.5 hours: 60 minutes of presentations and 30 minutes for questions and answers. It will feature interventions from constituents, remarks from representatives of workers and employers, and ILO officials from the ILO Office for the Caribbean and the Gender, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Branch in Geneva (GEDI).
